State Eligibility Test (SET) is a common exam conducted by the SLET Commission, Assam (North Eastern Region).
The test is held to decide eligibility for appointment as Assistant Professor in colleges and universities of the member states:
Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
The commission has released the official notification for State Eligibility Test (SET) 2026.

Eligibility Criteria for SLET 2026
Age Limit
- No upper age limit.
Any candidate who meets the educational qualification can appear in the exam.
Candidates who qualify in SLET will be eligible to apply for Assistant Professor posts within the jurisdiction of the member states of this commission.
Educational Qualification
- For General / Unreserved / EWS candidates
- Must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in a Master’s degree or equivalent examination from a UGC-recognised university/institution.
- For SC / ST / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / PwD candidates
- Must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination.
- Appearing candidates
- Those who are appearing in the final year of their Master’s degree or whose final result is awaited may also apply.
- Such candidates must complete their qualifying degree with the required percentage within the time limit specified by the commission.
SLET 2026 Application Fee
Application fees are different for each category:

Exam Pattern – SLET 2026
The State Eligibility Test consists of two compulsory papers, both conducted on the same day in two sessions.
All questions are objective-type (Multiple Choice / Matching / Assertion–Reasoning / True–False).
Paper I
- Marks: 100
- Number of questions: 50
- Duration: 1 hour (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM)
- Nature of paper: General paper on teaching and research aptitude, reasoning, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness.
Paper II
- Marks: 200
- Number of questions: 100
- Duration: 2 hours (11:30 AM – 1:30 PM)
- Nature of paper: Subject-specific questions based on the subject selected by the candidate.
All questions carry 2 marks each. There is no negative marking.

Candidates can choose their preferred centre at the time of online application.
The commission may change a centre depending on administrative needs.
How to Apply Online for State Eligibility Test 2026
Eligible candidates can submit the SET application form online by following these steps:
- Visit the official SLET website and scroll to the “Important Web-Links” section.
- Click on the “Online Application Form (Register / Login)” link.
- Complete the registration with a valid email ID and mobile number.
- Log in and fill in all personal, academic and contact details carefully.
- Choose your subject and exam centre.
- Upload scanned copies of your photograph, signature and other required documents in the prescribed format.
- Pay the application fee online.
- Submit the form and download/print the confirmation page for future reference.
