The 2350 posts are distributed among several cadres. Major groups are:
- Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police

Eligibility Criteria for Assam Police Recruitment 2026
1. Nationality & Domicile
- Applicant must be a citizen of India.
- Must be a permanent resident of Assam.
- Name should be registered in any Employment Exchange of Assam.
- Candidate should be able to speak Assamese or any other official language of Assam.
2. Age Limit (as on the date mentioned in the notification)
Different age limits are fixed for different posts. In general:
- SI posts: 20 to 26 years
- Constable & Driver posts: 18 to 25 years
- Grade-IV & other staff: 18 to 40 years (approx., as per post)
Upper age relaxation
- SC / ST (P) / ST (H): 5 years
- OBC / MOBC: 3 years

3. Educational Qualification
Minimum academic qualification is different for each group of posts:
- Sub-Inspector (SI):
- Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Constable (UB / AB):
- Passed HS or 10+2 from a recognized board.
- Constable (Driver):
- HSLC / Class 10 pass and
- Valid LMV / MMV / HMV driving license with driving experience.
- Technical & Communication posts (APRO / Fire / Workshop etc.):
- HSLC / HS with Science / Mathematics / ITI / Diploma, as specified in the advertisement.
- Grade-IV & other staff (Cook, Barber, Safai, Peon, etc.):
- Class VIII / HSLC pass, depending on the post.

Candidates who do not meet the minimum physical standards will be disqualified at the Physical Standard Test (PST) stage.
Medical Standards
- Candidates must be physically and mentally fit.
- No knock-knees, flat foot, squint eye, colour blindness or any physical defect.
- Distant vision should be 6/6 and 6/9 without correction; near vision as prescribed.
- Final medical examination will be carried out by authorised Government Medical Officers/Hospitals.
Selection Process of Assam Police Recruitment 2026
The selection process usually consists of the following stages:
- Physical Standard Test (PST)
- Measurement of height, chest and weight.
